Donna Yates, Move 2 North Georgia.net: My North Georgia - Toccoa River (edited)

My North Georgia - Toccoa River (edited)

North Georgia's Toccoa River, where canoeing, kayaking and fly fishing are popular activities.

From its extreme headwaters located in the Chattahoochee National Forest in southwestern Union County Georgia, the Toccoa River stretches nearly 60 miles as it winds its way through the ancient Appalachian Mountains in Blue Ridge, northwestward into Tennessee.   The stretch of river running from the United States Forest Service's Deep Hole Recreation area (near a small town called Margret) in Fannin County to Sandy Bottoms has Class l, ll, and lll rapids.  Class lll rapids are found about midway.  The Toccoa runs into Lake Blue Ridge before continuing its journey into Tennessee.

Once the river passes into Tennesee, it is called the Ocoee and continues  its flow along the banks of the Copper Basin into the Ocoee River Gorge in Tennessee's Cherokee National Forest.   Here river enthusiasts will find one of the best whitewater rivers (carrying the Olympic seal of approval) in the Blue Ridge Mountains.   The Ocoee has miles of Class lll and lV rapids with over twenty continuous rapids dropping a heart pounding 260 feet along its run.  Believe me, I know, I've done this !!!  I have a tee-shirt to prove it.  The shirt reads, "I Survived"! :-)

As for fishing, the Toccoa River is considered big water by trout stream standards.  Here fishermen and women find some of the best trout fishing in Georgia.  The tailwaters extend from Lake Blue Ridge Dam to approximately fourteen miles downstream to McCaysville/Copperhill Tennessee.  The Toccoa  is stocked annually with brown and rainbow trout.  Lake Blue Ridge Dam is a bottom release dam which results in the tailwaters having more stable temperatures throughout the year which adds up to great trout fishing.

Sit along the banks of the Toccoa or find a great boulder and enjoy the sun and the sounds of nature as the river makes its run.  A great place for quiet reflection and downtime.  Surrounded by awesome natural beauty and wildlife, you are sure to emerge renewed and reenenergized .

Sit back and take in the sights and sounds through this video  - Enjoy !

Hi Donna, that stream was very relaxing. I wanted to climb on the rocks and just sit in the sun and listen to the water. Thanks for including it in your post.

Donna - I am not a fisherperson, but that river looks inviting - we used to go rafting on the American River near Sacramento - what fun!  We took a few nasty spills, but went back for more.

Hi Donna,
Very well done and I agree with Steve (though I really don't fish) the video is certainly inviting.

Gary:  Had I had on different shoes that day, I would have climbed out on a rock for awhile.  LOL

Virginia: This river is safe enough for grandparents and their grandkids.  There is a section with class III rapids but for the most part, the river is a nice relaxing and sometimes exhilarating ride.

Cynthia: Thank you.  It was fun taping it.  There was just a slight hint of fall in the air that day and the sun was bright so a great time to be outdoors.

Hi Denise:  You captured exactly what I was trying to do with this video.  Give someone who might be sitting in an office somewhere in the middle of a big city an opportunity for a mini vacation.   Thank you.

Donna, I love your video!  We got an awful lot of rain today, and our Rock Creek was looking like a river!  It was wild and beautiful!

Patricia:  The river was down some.  When we've had sufficient rain, it can really roll!

Tracy:  I'm getting the hang of Mixpo but I did find a tutorial that Brad Andersohn wrote back in April so now I'm following all of those links.  He lays out the features of the program.  I was out of the loop in April through June on AR so I missed the rollout.   I am excited to be learning something new and incorporating video into my blogs and for my clients too.

Donna: Aren't we lucky to live surrounded by such beauty?!  Wonderful post...LOVED the video!

Pat:  It is a challenge to get away from the computer, especially if you are addicted to Active Rain like me and so many.  LOL  When you need a mini vacation, just click on the river video and let it take you away for a few seconds.

Kim:  Thank you.  Yes, absolutely we are blessed to live in such a friendly community with so much natural beauty literally outside our doors.

Fred:  I am so glad you included a picture.  Here are my two new babies and one of the most treasured friend of my life (Boopi).  She passed away this April and words just can't express the loss.

Boopi - her hair was cut short so lost the cocker look just a bit.

Chela - 4 months old

and

Bubbi - (Chela's brother)
